Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert Issued in Seven Kerala Districts Today

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms with rainfall across Kerala over the next three days. A yellow alert is in effect today across seven districts — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram. The forecast indicates isolated heavy showers, defined as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

Thunderstorms and lightning pose serious risks to both human and animal life, and can cause significant damage to electrical and communication infrastructure, as well as household appliances connected to power lines. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution starting from the moment heavy cloud formation is observed. Since lightning strikes are not always visibly detectable, people should not disregard safety measures, the meteorological department advised.
