Kochi: The Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, took a nostalgic ride on the Kochi Water Metro, highlighting its importance as a model for future urban transportation initiatives in India. During his journey on the picturesque Kochi backwaters, he reflected on the city's transformation and praised the technological advancements of the Water Metro system. Gyanesh Kumar, who had previously served in Kerala as District Collector, noted that while water transport systems existed during his tenure, the current system’s integration of modern technology and efficient planning was a significant leap forward.
He emphasized that the Kochi Water Metro could serve as a model for cities across India with water bodies, encouraging similar projects nationwide. Additionally, Gyanesh Kumar saw the Water Metro as an effective platform to spread public awareness on various topics, including elections, and highlighted its potential to showcase India's vibrant democratic system to visitors.
The event also had key officials accompanying him, including Kochi Metro Rail Limited Managing Director Loknath Behra, Chief General Manager Shaji Janardhanan, and others involved in the project. The Chief Election Commissioner concluded his visit by expressing his admiration for the Water Metro's role in transforming urban mobility and enhancing Kochi's identity as a city intertwined with water.
