Relief for Aided School Teachers; Government Decides to Provide Appointment Confirmation to 20,000 Teachers

Thiruvananthapuram: In a historical decision addressing the long-standing concerns of aided school teachers, the government has issued an order in favor of teachers whose appointment approvals were delayed due to legal complications related to reservations for persons with disabilities. This decision will benefit over 20,000 teachers.

It will provide service and wage benefits to teachers who have been working without a salary due to complications in implementing reservations in aided schools under the 1996 Disabilities Act. The government has decided to extend the benefits of the Supreme Court verdict in the NSS case to other managements in similar circumstances. Managements that have reserved posts for the recruitment of persons with disabilities will provide permanent appointments to the temporary teachers under them. The order also states that all benefits will be ensured to teachers from the day they joined their jobs. The concerned departments have been instructed to complete the proposals for appointment approvals within two weeks. However, action will be taken only after the court’s final verdict in the case of 442 teachers who filed a petition in the Supreme Court opposing the government’s regularization move.

Education Minister V. Sivankutty said that this move demonstrates the LDF government’s commitment to protecting the rights of teachers while ensuring justice. He added that the government considers this decision will provide a significant boost to the empowerment of the education sector.
