Thiruvananthapuram: Minister P. Rajeev has criticised BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar for saying that the decline in infant mortality rate in Kerala is due to the large number of youths going abroad. The Minister questioned how such "nonsense" could be said by someone with an education. He added that when he first saw the video, he mistook it for AI-generated, only to later realise that it was real. Anyone who watches the video will be shocked, the Minister said. It is troubling that such absurd statements are made by a prominent political leader who is educated, a former Union Minister, and someone proficient in technology.

Rajeev Chandrashekhar's controversial remark was made at the Kerala Summit Development Seminar organised by Manorama Yearbook. Minister P. Rajeev emphasized that the infant mortality rate, which refers to the number of infant deaths per 1,000 live births, is a basic concept known to schoolchildren. He further pointed out that this statement reflects a reluctance to acknowledge Kerala's achievements.
