Elephants Block Flight of Twins Accused of Killing Uncle in Nedungandam

Nedungandam: Police have arrested twin brothers in connection with the brutal murder of their father’s brother in Tevarammettu, Nedungandam. Bhavaneshwar (23) and Vigneshwar (23) were apprehended after fleeing into the forest. Their escape came to an unexpected halt when they encountered a herd of elephants, prompting them to take temporary refuge until police and local villagers managed to arrest them.

The victim, Murugesan (55), originally from Coimbatore and employed at Ponnankani plantations, was reportedly killed by his nephews, the sons of his brother Ayyappan. The attack occurred near the Bojan Company residence around 6 pm on Friday. Nedungandam police said financial disputes were believed to be the motive. Murugesan’s granddaughter was reportedly present during the attack.

After the murder, the twins, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, fled via separate routes. While attempting to cross into Tamil Nadu through the forest, they were startled by a herd of wild elephants and sought temporary shelter.

The suspects, who have prior criminal cases in Tamil Nadu, were eventually tracked down through a coordinated effort between police and local residents. They were produced in court and remanded after being brought back to the crime scene for evidence collection.

Murugesan and Ayyappan’s family have been long-term residents of Nedungandam, living in the area for several years.
