DYFI’s ‘Hridayapoorvam’ Will Continue; Health Minister’s Announcement to Halt Free Meal Distribution Programmes Inhumane, Says V K Sanoj

Thiruvananthapuram: DYFI State Secretary V K Sanoj has criticised the Kerala Health Department's reported move to discontinue free meal distribution programmes, including the organisation's Hridayapoorvam initiative, which has been operating in government hospitals for several years.

In a Facebook post, Sanoj described Health Minister K Muraleedharan's announcement to end the existing meal distribution programme as "reprehensible" and "inhumane."

He noted that the government has proposed introducing a community kitchen system to provide food in government hospitals. According to Sanoj, the DYFI does not oppose strengthening such a system.

However, he questioned the government's urgency in dismantling the existing community-driven meal distribution network before the proposed alternative becomes operational. He said such a move naturally raises concerns and suspicions.
