DYFI Protests Over Death of Female Watcher at Thrissur Harrison Malayalam Estate; Police Attack Protesters

Thrissur: The DYFI staged a protest over the death of a female watcher at the Harrison Malayalam Estate in Thrissur, who died by suicide due to mental harassment at her workplace. DYFI workers marched to the Harrison estate office demanding an investigation and strict action against those responsible for Manjusha's death.

Police resorted to a lathi charge against DYFI workers who marched to the office and physically assaulted the organisation's leaders.

Manjusha (41), a native of Chembuchira Oottupurath, was found hanging from an electricity tower inside the plantation at the Kundayi Harrison Malayalam Estate in Thrissur. She had gone missing after arriving for work on Monday. Her body was found around 500 metres from the factory during a search.

Police also recovered a suicide note from the spot containing serious allegations against three senior officials. The note reportedly stated that being transferred from her usual duty was the reason for Manjusha taking her own life.

Manjusha, who worked as a watcher at the factory, had reportedly been sent alone to an outside plantation area for the past 20 days. She had been struggling with the difficulty of working alone in an area where wild animals were known to enter.

The suicide note reportedly stated that three members of the management, who were aware that Manjusha had health issues and unable to work alone in the outside area, had nevertheless assigned her to work in the plantation near the forest.
