Thiruvananthapuram: DYFI State Secretary V K Sanoj has condemned the UDF government's white paper proposal to raise the retirement age, calling it a move that would crush the employment aspirations of Kerala's youth. He warned that DYFI would launch a strong agitation if the government proceeded with the proposal.

Sanoj said the move would be a shock for the lakhs of young people who have written PSC examinations and are waiting for appointments, and demanded that the UDF government step back from what he described as a betrayal of youth. He noted that Kerala had conducted more PSC appointments than any other state over the past ten years, and that the UDF had historically pursued anti-youth policies whenever it came to power — pointing to the near-total recruitment freeze during the Oommen Chandy government as an example.

Sanoj also accused Chief Minister V D Satheesan of misleading the younger generation by promising to permit vehicle modifications during the election campaign, only to go back on the commitment. He said if the Chief Minister was a man of his word, he should show the same courage in withdrawing the additional ₹2 tax on petrol.
