Disability-Friendly Kerala; Model Autism Complexes in All Districts: Minister Sivankutty

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government will set up Model Autism Complexes with modern facilities in all districts to ensure better education and specialised care for children with autism and other developmental challenges, General Education Minister V Sivankutty has said.

The initiative is aimed at supporting the overall development of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder by providing quality education, therapy and professional care under one roof. Each centre will be built at an estimated cost of 2.70 crore and will include facilities designed to meet international standards.

According to the minister, the complexes will focus on personalised learning and early intervention, along with essential therapies such as speech therapy and occupational therapy. The centres will also provide barrier-free access, expert counselling services and dedicated spaces where parents can receive guidance and training to better support their children.

In a Facebook post, Minister Sivankutty said the project reflects the government’s commitment to building an inclusive and disability-friendly society by bringing differently-abled children into the mainstream. The initiative forms part of the LDF government’s broader policy aimed at strengthening public education and expanding support systems for children with special needs across Kerala.
