Death of One-and-a-Half-Year-Old in Payyanur; Doctors to Be Questioned

Kannur: Police are continuing their investigation into the death of one-and-a-half-year-old Devansh Shaurya of Payyanur, Kannur. The family is demanding action against the doctors and hospital management, seeking cases against the anaesthesiologist, paediatrician and plastic surgeon involved in the child's treatment. Police have decided to proceed with further action after a medical board examines the treatment records.
Devansh Shaurya is the son of Suraj and Vijisha of Payyanur. He died on the night of July 10 at Baby Memorial Hospital, Kannur. The child's condition had deteriorated following the administration of anaesthesia. The previous Sunday, the child had fallen and sustained a facial injury while playing and was admitted to Baby Memorial Hospital, Payyanur, for stitches.
His condition turned critical after anaesthesia was administered for the procedure. Based on a complaint filed by the family alleging medical negligence, police have registered a case against Dr Anjali Pothuval, a doctor at Payyanur BMH. Hospital authorities have denied any medical negligence, saying the child experienced an unexpected health complication.
