Meta Disables Deshabhimani Instagram Account Following Anti BJP-RSS Reporting

Thiruvananthapuram: Meta has banned Deshabhimani’s Instagram account, which was active in the digital space with its pro-people reporting and uncompromising stance against BJP-RSS policies. Deshabhimani frequently posted content highlighting the central government’s neglect of Kerala and its anti-people policies. As a result, the account was disabled by Meta.

Although an appeal has been filed to restore the account, Meta has not yet taken a positive action. Deshabhimani’s Instagram account had been operating strongly against the BJP government’s submission to America and against communal propaganda. The platform frequently covered central policies affecting common people and the neglect of Kerala, which has hindered the state’s developmental growth, providing factual news and cards. Meta’s action comes at a time when this content had reached a large audience, raising questions about the impartiality of digital platforms.

Meta has also disabled the Instagram account of the online media outlet NoCap. The ban reportedly followed its reporting and revelations critical of the Modi government, including references to the Epstein files and criticism of the RSS.

This has sparked a strong debate on whether unilateral decisions by social media platforms pose a threat to independent journalism. There is growing concern that such actions may be attempts to silence media outlets that highlight issues affecting the public.
