Pregnant Woman’s Murder: Alappuzha Court Sentences Accused to Death

Alappuzha: In the Kainakary Anitha murder case, the first accused, Prabeesh (37), of Muthukad Muripookkoden House, Nilambur, has been sentenced to death. The verdict was delivered by the Alappuzha Additional District and Sessions Court (III).
The second accused, Rajani (38), of Thottuvathala Pathisheri House, Kainakary, who was out on bail in this case, is currently in remand at the Rayagada Jail in Odisha in connection with a narcotics case. Her sentence will be pronounced after she is brought back to Kerala.
Anitha, a native of Thekkemadham, Punnapra, was killed on July 9, 2021, at around 9:30 pm. The accused, Prabeesh and Rajani, had been living together. During this time, Prabeesh fell in love with Anitha, whom he had met while in Palakkad. When she became pregnant, she demanded that he marry her, but he refused. After their attempts to terminate the pregnancy failed, Prabeesh and Rajani decided to kill her.
Anitha was lured to Rajani’s house in Thottuvathala, where she was attacked. After she lost consciousness, she was placed in a fibre boat and dumped in the Pookaitha river near the Aryanthodu area in Pallathuruthy.
Although there were 112 witnesses in the case, 82 were examined in court. The prosecution submitted 131 documents and 53 material objects, including the fibre boat. Rajani’s mother even testified in favour of the prosecution. The court had found both Prabeesh and Rajani guilty the previous day.
The investigation was conducted and the chargesheet filed by A V Biju, who was the Nedumudy Police Inspector at the time. Public Prosecutor N B Shari appeared for the prosecution.
