Kottayam: A new chapter of hope and healing begins for the family of D Bindu, a resident of Thalayolaparambu who tragically lost her life when a disused toilet at Kottayam Medical College Hospital collapsed. Tomorrow, the family will receive the key to their newly renovated home, a house built not just with bricks and mortar, but with compassion and care.

The house has been restored under the National Service Scheme, operating under the Higher Education Department, with the aim of providing a sanctuary of safety and dignity. During a visit to the site, Higher Education and Social Justice Minister Dr. R Bindu assured that the home would stand as a “house of care,” reflecting the love and support of the community and the government.

The renovation, carried out meticulously over three months at a cost of 12.50 lakh rupees, transformed the house into a secure and comfortable haven. The kitchen was rebuilt to include a proper toilet, concrete work strengthened the structure, the yard was raised, and a protective wall was constructed. A new kitchen and work area were added, the sunshade renewed, and the septic tank and access steps were refurbished, all designed to restore normalcy and dignity to the family’s life.

The state government extended immediate relief to Bindu’s grieving family, providing 10 lakh rupees as urgent financial assistance. The medical expenses of her daughter, Navami, were fully covered, and her son, Navaneeth, was assured employment, offering a ray of hope amid the sorrow. Under the guidance of the Higher Education Minister, the National Service Scheme completed the renovation swiftly, ensuring the family could move into a safe and welcoming home without further delay.

The key handover ceremony, a moment of closure and new beginnings, will be held on Friday at 6:30 pm at Thalayolaparambu Ummenkunnu. Higher Education and Social Justice Minister Dr. R Bindu will present the key, while Bindu’s mother, Seethalakshmi, and her husband, Vishruthan, receive it with gratitude and relief. Minister V N Vasavan will preside over the ceremony, and MLA C K Asha will also be in attendance, bearing witness to a story of resilience, compassion, and hope.
