CPI(M) Branch Secretary Attacked in Thrissur During Wall Booking Drive

Thrissur: A Communist Party of India  (CPI(M)) branch secretary sustained injuries after he was attacked by a group reportedly affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during a wall booking exercise for the upcoming elections in the state. The incident occurred on Sunday on October 12, evening around 7 p.m. in the SJ Nagar area of Anappara in Thrissur.


Forty year old E.C. Sharath , branch secretary of the CPI(M) SJ Nagar unit, suffered a head injury and has been admitted to Thrissur General Hospital. According to party sources, two individuals armed with sharp weapons attacked Sharath while he was involved in booking a wall for campaign material. The assailants fled the scene after local CPI(M) workers intervened.


The attack was led by individuals identified as Libin and Kannan. The Viyyur police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.


CPI(M) Thrissur area secretary Anoop Davis visited the hospital to inquire about Sharath’s condition. The Vilvattam local committee of the party organised a protest against the incident. Area committee member T.R. Hiran and local secretary Aravind Palliyil addressed the gathering, condemning the attack and demanding swift action.
