CPI(M) Has No Understanding with SDPI or Jamaat-e-Islami, Says M A Baby

Kannur: CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby has categorically stated that the party has not entered into any understanding or electoral arrangement with either SDPI or Jamaat-e-Islami.

Speaking at a press conference in Kannur, Baby made clear that the SDPI's mode of functioning is incompatible with democratic politics, and that Jamaat-e-Islami subscribes to the ideology of a theocratic state. He added that if Jamaat-e-Islami holds a different position on this matter, it must say so openly and unambiguously.

On the question of the PDP, he noted that the party has publicly announced its support for the LDF. He acknowledged that at one point, both the PDP and its Chairman Abdul Nasser Madani had adopted communal positions. However, Madani subsequently and publicly renounced those earlier stances, and the PDP as an organisation has reflected that change in its own outlook and conduct.

Baby went on to accuse the UDF of deliberately orchestrating certain propaganda campaigns with the sole objective of preventing the LDF government's development record from becoming the central topic of public discourse during the elections. He drew a sharp parallel between the BJP and the Congress, asserting that there is little ideological difference between the two parties today. "Today's Congress is tomorrow's BJP," he said pointedly.

He also took aim at those who have left the CPI(M) and aligned themselves with the party of K. Sudhakaran, the leader who himself admitted to standing guard during RSS weapons training.

The senior CPI(M) leader further noted that G Sudhakaran has claimed he expects to receive five thousand BJP votes — a statement that raises serious questions about the political positions being adopted by those who have walked out of the party. All of this, M A Baby concluded, points unmistakably towards backroom deals and covert political arrangements.
