M V Govindan Speaks at ‘Avalkoppam’ Event at IFFK: Conspirators Remain Unpunished

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) State Secretary M V Govindan said that bringing those who conspired in the actress assault case before the law and ensuring their punishment is the foremost responsibility of every individual in Kerala. He was speaking at the 'Avalkoppam' solidarity gathering held at Tagore Theatre, the main venue of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
Govindan said that society has not been fully successful in ensuring punishment for all those involved in the conspiracy behind the crime. “This exposes the limitations of the judiciary, and these limitations must be viewed with seriousness,” he said.
Following the verdict in the case, the state government had expressed its full support for the survivor and announced its decision to file an appeal. At the inaugural ceremony of IFFK, Minister Saji Cheriyan had publicly stated that the government stands firmly with the survivor.
The solidarity meeting was attended by prominent personalities from the art and cultural sphere, along with festival delegates.
