Thrissur: The CPI M has stepped in to support Thayyattu Kochu Velayudhan, a resident of Chazhur panchayath, after he was insulted by Union Minister Suresh Gopi while seeking assistance to build a house. District Secretary K V Abdul Khader laid the foundation stone for the new house, which is being constructed under the party’s initiative for Kochu Velayudhan, who had been living in a single- room dwelling.
Abdul Khader described the house construction as a creative response to the arrogant behavior of a public representative, an attitude no elected official should display. The house will span 600 square feet and include two bedrooms, a hall, kitchen, bathroom, and veranda.

The incident occurred during a developmental dialogue in Chazhur, where Suresh Gopi reportedly dismissed the 80- year- old applicant, saying, “This is not my job,” and returned the application without even reading it. When asked whether MP funds would be provided only in the BJP- ruled Avinissery panchayath, Gopi allegedly replied, “Yes, that can be done, brother,” and reportedly stated that urban development funding from the MP fund would be available only if the BJP won the corporation elections.
In response, CPI M leaders visited Kochu Velayudhan’s home in Pullu and promised to construct a house for him. The foundation -laying ceremony was chaired by House Construction Committee Chairman K K Anil. Speeches were delivered by CPI M district secretariat member P K Shajan, Chazhur area secretary A S Dinkaran, Farmers’ Association district president P R Varghese, Anthikad Block Panchayat president K K Shashidharan, CPI M area committee members K S Mohandas, Seby Joseph, V R Biju, Chazhur local secretary K Gopi, and local committee member Adv. K S Shekesh.
