Binoy Viswom Slams Union Budget 2026-27, Calls Centre “Discriminatory” Towards Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswom has described the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as entirely disappointing. He said the budget contains nothing to address the rising unemployment among the youth, calling it a mockery of the state’s young workforce.

He pointed out that the Kerala state government had submitted proposals consolidating its development projects, including comprehensive plans prepared by the State Finance Department. However, the budget makes no provision even for the ancillary development projects of the Vizhinjam International Port. The special package of ₹21,000 crore, long demanded by the state, was again ignored. According to him, this reflects the Centre’s long-standing discriminatory attitude towards Kerala.

He also criticised the budget for ignoring urban development initiatives in Thiruvananthapuram, despite the BJP won the the city’s administration. The announced City Economic Regions—Tier-1, Tier-2, and Tier-3—have no allocation for Kerala. He said the budget ruthlessly dismissed the state’s legitimate demands and represents the Centre’s overt bias in favour of BJP-ruled states.
