Kozhikode: The UDF’s surprise mayoral candidate for the Kozhikode Corporation, V M Vinu, does not have his name in the voters’ list. Vinu, a filmmaker contesting from the Kallayi division, was found to be missing from the electoral rolls. He is a resident of the fourth booth in the Malaparamba ward.

DCC president K Praveen Kumar said the party is examining what happened and whether Vinu’s name was removed from the latest revised list for any particular reason. The issue came to light during the verification process while filing the nomination.

Meanwhile, the Congress has been left embarrassed for fielding a candidate without checking the voters’ list. There has been protest within the party against the leadership. Questions are being raised on why Congress workers failed to verify the list or take steps to include Vinu’s name despite having two opportunities to do so. The party had announced Vinu as its mayoral candidate with much prominence just the previous day.
