Alappuzha: A man who relied on the generosity of townspeople for his daily sustenance met a tragic end in Charummood on Monday evening when a scooter accident left him fatally injured. He had long been seen around Charummood and neighbouring areas, quietly earning his living through the kindness of passersby.

After the accident, he was taken to the nearest hospital. At the hospital, he gave his name as Anil Kishore Thaiparambil from Kayamkulam, though authorities are unsure if this was his real identity. Doctors noted a head injury and recommended specialised treatment, but he left the hospital later that night. By Tuesday morning, he was found dead in front of a shop in the town.

Local police, alerted by a panchayat member, moved the body to the Medical College Hospital. While inspecting his belongings at the police station, officers discovered a surprising sum: 452,207 rupees. The cash, including 2000-rupee notes and smaller denominations, was carefully packed into five plastic tins and purses, all sealed with cellophane.

No relatives have come forward, and the police confirmed that the entire amount will be deposited in court.
