BJP Seeks NIA Probe Into Arabic Restaurants in Kerala

Thrissur: A controversy has emerged in Kerala after leaders of BJP filed a complaint seeking an investigation into Arabic restaurants operating in the state. The complaint, submitted to the NIA, calls for a probe into the financial sources and alleged links of such establishments.

The letter was reportedly sent by Praseeth Das, convenor of the BJP Thrissur district intellectual cell. The complaint specifically demands a detailed inquiry into the rapid growth of Arabic restaurants in Kerala following the Demonetisation in 2016.

The move has drawn criticism from various quarters, with allegations that it attempts to cast suspicion on certain food businesses and cultural practices. Critics argue that targeting restaurants based on cuisine could contribute to social division.

The issue follows recent tensions over a Vishu-themed poster that featured an image of Lord Krishna alongside mandi, which was opposed by BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Observers claim that naming specific establishments in the complaint raises concerns about possible targeting of businesses. There are also accusations that such actions could fuel communal polarization centered around food and commerce.

Similar controversies have arisen in the past, with allegations that organized campaigns have been carried out around food-related issues in the state by BJP.
