Abhimanyu Murder Case to Be Considered on Tuesday in Court; Trial Schedule Likely to Be Decided

Kochi: The Abhimanyu murder case will be considered on Tuesday. The hearing was adjourned to Tuesday in view of the lawyers’ strike at the district court. The trial schedule is expected to be decided today.

On August 13, the additional chargesheet, which includes Section 323 of the Indian Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt), was read out to the accused, who are Popular Front and Campus Front activists. The High Court has previously directed that the trial must be completed within four months. The accused have been charged under various sections relating to murder, attempt to murder, conspiracy, destruction of evidence and unlawful assembly.

Abhimanyu, a second-year degree student at Maharaja’s College and SFI unit secretary, was murdered by Popular Front and Campus Front activists on July 2, 2018.

The accused are J I Mohammed, Arif Bin Salim, Riyas Hussain, Bilal Saji, Farooq Amani, P M Rajeeb, Abdul Naser, Adil Bin Salim, Shifas, Sahal, Jisal Razak, Mohammed Shahim, Saneesh, Faiz, Tanzil and Sanid.

The chargesheet against the accused was submitted on September 25, 2018.
