Thiruvananthapuram: On the occasion of Dr B R Ambedkar Jayanti, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) paid tribute to the architect of the Indian Constitution, remembering his lifelong struggle against caste oppression, discrimination, and social injustice.
Joining in the remembrance, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a strongly worded Facebook post, underscored the relevance of Ambedkar's vision in contemporary India.
“Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was a towering historical figure who dedicated his entire life to realizing a world free from discrimination, oppression, and exploitation,” the Chief Minister wrote.
Highlighting Ambedkar’s role in mobilizing the marginalized against the entrenched injustices of the caste system and his leadership in drafting the Constitution, the CM noted that Ambedkar’s legacy continues to inspire generations fighting for equality and justice.
However, Pinarayi Vijayan warned that India is currently going through a phase where democratic and constitutional values are under serious threat.
“The Sangh Parivar forces in power are suppressing dissent, undermining federalism, and putting India’s secular conscience in grave danger through communal excesses and divisive politics,” he stated.
He urged all democratic and secular voices across the nation to come together in resistance, adding that Ambedkar Jayanti must serve as a moment of collective strength in the ongoing struggle for a people’s democratic India.
