Kannur: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has secured two additional unopposed victories in the Anthoor Municipality. CPI(M) candidates E. Rajitha from Kodallur ward and K. V. Premarajan from Thaliyil ward have been declared elected.

The victories came after the nomination papers of the UDF candidates were rejected during the scrutiny process. The nominations were invalidated due to forged signatures. The individuals listed as proposer and supporter of the UDF candidates personally appeared before the returning officer and stated that they had not signed the documents. Following this revelation, the nomination papers were rejected. LDF leaders alleged that the UDF obtained signatures by misleading people under other pretexts.

With this, LDF candidates have been elected unopposed in five wards of Anthoor Municipality. Earlier, CPI(M) candidate T. V. Dhanya had won unopposed in the Anchampeetika ward after the UDF candidate withdrew the nomination. Candidates K. Rajitha in Morazha ward and K. Premachandran in Podikkundu ward had also been elected unopposed earlier.

Across the state, the LDF has now secured a total of 13 seats unopposed ahead of the elections.
