Kannur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that, unlike in other States, local self-government institutions in Kerala have been granted greater powers and significantly higher financial support under the LDF government.

He said that during the UDF regime from 2011 to 2016, local bodies received Rs 29,500 crore. In contrast, the subsequent LDF government allocated nearly four times that amount. During its first five-year term, the LDF government provided Rs 52,648 crore, and after returning to power in 2021, it has so far disbursed Rs 70,526 crore. In total, Rs 1.23 lakh crore has been allotted to local bodies under the LDF, he said.

As a result of this enhanced financial and administrative support, Kerala’s local self-government institutions have been able to function effectively as true grassroots governments, the Chief Minister said. He added that the LDF had entered the election campaign with full confidence and received strong public backing. On that basis, he asserted, the LDF would return to power once again with renewed strength.
