Idukki: The UDF suffered a major setback in Idamalakudi, the state’s only Scheduled Tribe panchayat, in Idukki district. The LDF staged a strong comeback by winning nine of the 14 wards. The ruling UDF managed to secure victory in only two seats, while the BJP won three.
Idamalakudi has a total of 1,803 voters, comprising 893 women and 910 men. A total of 41 candidates contested the election, including 20 women and 21 men.
Following ward delimitation, the panchayath now consists of 14 wards, including the newly formed Kavakkattukudi. All wards are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Idamalakudi panchayat was formed in 2010 from a ward of Munnar panchayat.
