Washington: Massive protests broke out across several US cities in response to the Trump administration’s unilateral military intervention in Venezuela. Demonstrators condemned the US action as unjust and demanded the release of President Nicolás Maduro. Hundreds participated in rallies in cities including Chicago, Dallas, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Protesters argued that whenever the US attacks another country, it is the citizens of that nation who suffer the most, and they called for an end to American intervention. They also emphasised that Donald Trump has no authority to carry out such an operation in Venezuela and that the move violates the United Nations Charter.

In Seattle, protesters carried banners reading, “No blood for oil” and “Stop bombing Venezuela now!” Taylor Young, organiser of the Ansar group, said, “We are here to show solidarity against a government that has overstepped its authority using our tax dollars. The least we can do is make it clear across the country that such actions will not be tolerated.”

Protesters also raised their voices against the deportation of Venezuelans living in the US. In Brooklyn, New York, demonstrators gathered outside the facility where Maduro is being detained.
