Taliban Arrest Young Men in Afghanistan for Wearing Peaky Blinders-Style Outfits

Kabul: Netflix hit series Peaky Blinders enjoys a huge fan following worldwide, with the costumes of its main characters gaining particular popularity. However, in Afghanistan, the Taliban government has arrested youths for dressing in outfits inspired by the series, claiming the attire goes against Afghan values and promotes foreign culture.
According to a BBC report, a Taliban spokesperson said, “Peaky Blinders is against Afghan culture. Even jeans may be acceptable to some extent. But if we are to follow or imitate anyone, it should be good and religious role models.”
Police detained four youths from the Jibrail area of Herat province. All of them are around 20 years old. The arrests followed the youths sharing videos on social media in which they appeared wearing trench coats, hats, and suits resembling the costumes worn by characters in Peaky Blinders.
