Nepal Flash Floods Sweep Away Villages, Heavy Casualties Feared

Kathmandu: Villages are reported to have been swept away in sudden flash floods in Nepal. People in Syapru Besi and Timure in the mountainous Rasuwa district are facing severe hardship following the flash floods and heavy rain.

Villages and hydropower project sites are reported to have been completely washed away. Authorities have warned people living along the banks of the Bhote Koshi River to remain extremely vigilant.

Police, the army and other security forces have been deployed to the affected areas for rescue and relief operations. The flash floods occurred in the Bhote Koshi River, which originates in Tibet and flows into India.

There is currently no information available on the number of people missing. Authorities estimate that several people may have lost their lives.

Last year, floods in the Bhote Koshi River killed nine people, while 24 others went missing.

The floods also washed away the Friendship Bridge connecting Nepal and China, disrupting transportation in the region for several months.
