Iranian Airlines Face Global Disruption From September 23 Amid US Sanctions Threat

Tehran: International services operated by Iranian airlines could face a complete global disruption following a warning from the United States. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that international services of Iranian airlines could be fully disrupted from September 23.

Bessent warned that foreign companies and airports providing fuel, landing services or ticketing facilities to Iranian aircrafts could be excluded from the US dollar-based financial system.

Following the warning, Iraq said it would suspend services operated by Iranian airlines, while Georgia banned Iranian aircraft from entering the country. Iran's Mahan Air also suspended its services to Turkey following a request from the Turkish government.

The US warning is part of sanctions targeting Iran's aviation sector. On September 8, the US Treasury announced sanctions against 36 aviation-related entities, including 27 Iranian airlines.

With the latest warning, the US is intensifying pressure not only on Iranian airlines but also on foreign companies and airports that provide services to them.
