Tel Aviv / Tehran: In a joint statement issued by the Tudeh Party of Iran and the Communist Party of Israel condemned intensifying campaign of military aggression by the Israeli state across the region, culminating most recently in a direct attack on Iranian territory. The statement called the strike not as an isolated military incident but as part of a broader strategy of destabilization aimed at reshaping the political geography of the Middle East in line with the long-term goals of US imperialism and its allies.
The leftist parties demanded an immediate halt to all military operations and warned against the escalating conflict’s potential to plunge the region into a wider war. They called for international accountability and action to prevent further devastation, particularly in Gaza, where the consequences of Israel’s ongoing war have already reached as genocidal proportions. More than 55,000 Palestinians have been killed since the escalation began in late 2023, including over 18,000 children.
The joint declaration condemns the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for its campaign of military violence and occupation, and directly connects its actions to broader patterns of imperial domination. It criticises the political and military support provided by the United States, the United Kingdom, and key European Union states, arguing that this backing has enabled not only the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza but also emboldened Israel to extend its military reach into neighbouring countries with impunity.
Both parties reject the prevailing narrative in Western media and diplomatic circles that presents Iran’s regional alliances as mere instruments of geopolitical competition. Instead, the statement affirms the legitimacy of the political and resistance forces across the region — including in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq — that have long resisted foreign intervention and occupation. The framing of these movements as “proxies,” the parties argue, is part of an ideological strategy aimed at delegitimising independent political agency and justifying foreign aggression.
They emphasise that Israel's actions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including mass displacement, the destruction of civil infrastructure, and indiscriminate bombings, have long violated international law, and now extend to direct aggression against sovereign states. The attack on Iran, they contend, reflects an attempt to escalate regional conflict in order to isolate and weaken governments and movements that resist integration into the US-led imperial order. The goal, as described in the statement, is not regional security or peace, but rather the imposition of political, military, and economic control.
The statement also underscores the importance of nuclear disarmament across the Middle East. Both parties reaffirm their opposition to nuclear weapons programs in the region and globally, asserting that the path to disarmament lies not through war, but through a comprehensive regional framework for demilitarisation. They call for Israel — the only state in the Middle East widely believed to possess nuclear weapons — to accede to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and place its facilities under international supervision.
In their call to the international community, the Tudeh Party of Iran and the Communist Party of Israel warn that expressions of concern or rhetorical condemnation are no longer sufficient. They urge the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, to take concrete steps to prevent further escalation and to hold accountable those responsible for violations of international law. They stress the need for a political resolution that includes the immediate cessation of hostilities, the recognition of Palestinian statehood, and the restoration of sovereignty and self-determination for all peoples of the region.
Framing the current crisis as the product of decades of war, occupation, and imperial interference, the statement concludes by urging progressive and anti-imperialist forces worldwide to mobilize in solidarity. It emphasizes that lasting peace in the Middle East will only be possible through a fundamental break with the structures of imperial domination and the dismantling of systems of apartheid, militarism, and foreign control.
