Drone Attack on Saudi Arabia Thwarted: 16 Drones Targeting Shaybah Oil Field Destroyed

Riyad: Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, a drone attack targeted the Shaybah oil field in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Arabian defense forces intercepted and shot down 16 drones that attacked the oil field early Saturday morning. The Saudi Ministry of Defense officially released this information.

A ministry spokesperson stated that the drone attack occurred in four stages. Additionally, the army destroyed a ballistic missile and a cruise missile that targeted the Prince Sultan Air Base near Riyadh. No damage or casualties have been reported at the oil field.

The Shaybah oil field is located in the desolate "Empty Quarter" desert near the UAE border. With a daily crude oil production capacity of 1 million barrels, this facility is crucial to Saudi Arabia's economy.

Following the Israel–US attacks in Iran, Iran-aligned militias have intensified assaults on oil facilities in the Gulf region. In recent days, a similar attempted attack was reported targeting the Ras Tanura refinery.
