London: Amidst the ongoing war in the Middle East, a cargo ship was hit by a missile attack in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The attack on the container ship Safeen Prestige, which flies the flag of Malta, took place early Wednesday morning.

All 24 crew members on board were safely evacuated, and initial reports indicated that no one was injured. The incident occurred two nautical miles north of the Omani coast. The missile struck near the engine room of the ship, which was sailing eastward, causing a massive fire.

The attack was reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations. Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced yesterday that it has full control over the Strait of Hormuz. This was followed by an attack on a ship passing through the region, marking the fourth incident reported on this international sea route in the past 24 hours.

The vessel, Safeen Prestige, was traveling from Ghantoot Port in the UAE to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Following the attack, the crew lost control of the ship and abandoned it. The rescue operation was subsequently completed with the assistance of the Omani Navy.

In the wake of airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran, security agencies have warned that maritime traffic in the region is in an extremely dangerous situation.
