Dhaka: Reports by several international news agencies have indicated that Bangladesh may be moving towards restoring visa services for Indian citizens following the induction of BNP government led by Tariq Rahman. However, there has been no official confirmation from Dhaka regarding the resumption of visa processing.

Bangladesh had suspended the issuance of visas to Indian nationals last December after attacks on Indian diplomatic missions. The suspension marked a significant disruption in travel between the two neighbouring countries.

During the tenure of the Sheikh Hasina government, more than 8,000 visas were issued daily to Indian applicants through Indian visa centres operating in Bangladesh. However, the functioning of these visa application centres was severely affected following widespread protests in 2024, leading to further delays and uncertainty in visa services.

Authorities are yet to clarify when regular visa operations will fully resume.
