Kochi: After 32 years, Mammootty has begun filming a movie directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The film, titled Padayatra, had its poster shared by Mammootty on Facebook.

This is the fourth collaboration between Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Mammootty, following Mathilukal, Anantharam, and Vidheyan. It is also the eighth film produced by Mammootty’s company. The story, screenplay, and dialogues are jointly handled by Adoor Gopalakrishnan and K V Mohankumar. Key crew members include assistant director Meera Sahib, cinematography by Shehnad Jalal, editing by Praveen Prabhakar, art direction by Shaji Naduvil, and music by Mujeeb Majeed.

Their first film together was Anantharam (1987), a psychological drama fully written, directed, and produced by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Later, when Basheer’s novel Mathilukal was adapted into a film, Mammootty was chosen as the lead. Their last collaboration before this was Vidheyan, released in 1994. Mammootty won his first National Award for acting in Mathilukal, while Adoor Gopalakrishnan received the award for Best Director. For his role as Bhaskara Pattel in Vidheyan, Mammootty again won a National Award.
