CPI(M) Elects M.A. Baby as General Secretary, Forms New Polit Bureau and Central Committee

Madurai: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has elected M.A. Baby as its new General Secretary during the 24th Party Congress held in Madurai. The decision was proposed by Polit Bureau member Mohammed Salim and supported by Ashok Dhawale. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan made the announcement.
The party also elected an 18-member Polit Bureau and 85-member Central Committee, with 84 members chosen and one seat intentionally left vacant for future inclusion. The newly formed leadership reflects the party’s effort to ensure wider representation across regions, classes, and communities, reinforcing its commitment to grassroots struggles and inclusive politics.
