New Delhi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) has issued a statement condemning the escalating military threats issued by US President Donald Trump against Iran, as well as the continued support extended by the G7 to Israel's expanding war efforts in West Asia. The CPI(M) warns that these developments represent a grave threat to regional peace and global stability.

The statement denounces Trump's open threats to assassinate Iranian leaders and his demand for Iran’s unconditional surrender as violations of international law and dangerous provocations. The large-scale deployment of US military forces to the region is viewed as part of a broader preparation to launch joint attacks with Israel. This militarisation, the CPI(M) warns, is pushing West Asia toward a devastating and unnecessary war.

The Polit Bureau also criticised the outcome of the recent G7 summit in Canada, where member states placed the blame for rising tensions squarely on Iran, while remaining silent on Israel’s continuing military operations across the region. The CPI(M) holds Israel primarily responsible for the current instability, beginning with its assault on Gaza, and followed by military strikes in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and now Iran. These actions have taken place with the full political, financial, and military backing of the United States and its Western allies.

The CPI(M) describes this alignment as a clear example of Western imperialism using Israel as a regional instrument to assert its dominance in West Asia. The party argues that the current strategy led by the United States and supported by the G7 is aimed at imposing political control through military aggression, regime change, and the suppression of independent and sovereign states. The role of Israel in this arrangement, the statement notes, is central to maintaining US hegemony in the region.

The CPI(M) called on the international community to intervene urgently to stop this trajectory toward war. The party insists that peace cannot be achieved unless the international community holds both the United States and Israel accountable for their continued violations of international law. It stresses the need for a return to diplomacy and respect for the sovereignty of nations in West Asia.

The statement also strongly criticises the foreign policy of the BJP-led Indian government, which continues to align India with the strategic interests of the United States and Israel. This alignment, undermines India’s longstanding commitment to non-alignment, anti-colonial solidarity, and support for Palestinian rights. The party argued that a genuine commitment to the Global South requires standing with nations resisting imperialist aggression, rather than siding with those who seek to dominate and destabilise them.

The CPI(M) reiterated that the struggle for peace in West Asia cannot be separated from the fight against imperialism. It calls for international solidarity among anti-imperialist forces, progressive governments, and people’s movements to oppose war, occupation, and militarisation. Without ending the impunity enjoyed by the United States and Israel, and without restoring the primacy of international law, no lasting peace in the region is possible.
